Meet the instructor

Professor Hussein Dia

Hussein Dia is professor of Future Urban Mobility at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. 

He has four decades of experience in intelligent transport systems and smart infrastructure research, and has worked extensively in collaboration with both the public and private sectors, including strong engagement in industry projects. 

His research interests are in transport decarbonisation, smart mobility and the convergence of technology, infrastructure and human elements in urban environments. His current work is focused on harnessing digital innovations to unlock potential opportunities for sustainable mobility.  

He previously held a number of leadership roles at Swinburne, including Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering and Deputy Director of Swinburne’s Smart Cities Research Institute. In addition to his academic experience, he also held a number of industry positions in consulting and the private sector and worked on a large number of signature transport and infrastructure projects both in Australia and overseas. He currently serves as Senior Editor for the international journal IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems. 

Since 2019, he has been ranked in the US Stanford University citation rankings in the top 2% most cited scientists in the field of Logistics and Transportation.  

He is a Chartered Professional Engineer, Fellow of Engineers Australia, Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and Fellow of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
